Work Package 1: Training set development based on modern surface sediments

Tasks and milestones:
1. Exposure of sediment traps and thermistors in 50 lakes along a W-E climatic gradient across Poland.
2. Lake-water measurements (temperature, conductivity, oxygen, pH, redox potential, phosphorus and nitrogen) during sediment trap exposure.
3. Collection of sediment traps, thermistors and surface sediments.
4. Analysis of abiotic and biotic sediment characteristics.
5. Development of numerical Transfer Functions.

Expected results:
The first climatically relevant Polish training sets for biological proxies: chrysophyte stomatocysts, chironomids and diatoms.
