Work Package 2: Sediment coring, chronology, abiotic / geochemical analysis

Tasks and milestones:
1. Sediment coring, logging and archiving.
2. Microscopic analysis of varves on thin sections.
3. Dating by varve counting, AMS C-14, Pb-210 and Cs-137, and age-depth modelling.
4. Non-destructive analysis of major and minor elements at sub-annual resolution.
5. Varve-by-varve sub-sampling of the sediment record.
6. Analysis of organic compounds in bulk sediment.
7. Analysis of stable oxygen and carbon isotopes in authigenic carbonates and cellulose.

Expected results:
Continuous sedimentological, geochemical and isotope time series at annual resolution for the last 100 years (calibration period) and at 3-year resolution for the remaining last millennium.
